Will your phone work with our Colombia eSIM?

Two minutes now saves a non refundable mistake later. An eSIM only works if your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked from your US carrier. Check both below before you buy. If anything is unclear, email us first and we will help you confirm.

The two things that have to be true

Your phone needs to pass both checks:

  1. It supports eSIM (most phones from 2018 onward do)
  2. It is unlocked from your US carrier, or fully paid off and unlock eligible

If either one is a no, the eSIM will not work, and once it is installed and activated we cannot refund it.

Is your phone eSIM ready?

Most phones released from 2018 onward support eSIM. Confirmed compatible models include:

  • ✓iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, and every newer iPhone
  • ✓Google Pixel 3 and newer
  • ✓Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer flagships, plus the Z Flip and Z Fold series
  • ✓Most Motorola flagship models from 2020 onward

How to confirm: on iPhone open Settings, General, About, and look for a second eSIM or "Available SIM" line. On Android open Settings and search "SIM", then look for an option to add an eSIM or data plan without a physical SIM. If your model is not listed, check the manufacturer's specs page for the word "eSIM".

Is your phone unlocked?

A locked phone only accepts SIMs and eSIMs from the carrier you bought it from. If you bought your phone from a US carrier on a monthly payment plan, it is very likely locked until you meet that carrier's unlock rules. This is the most common reason an eSIM fails to activate for US travelers.

iPhone

On iPhone: open Settings, General, About, and scroll to "Carrier Lock". "No SIM restrictions" means unlocked. A carrier name or "SIM locked" means you must unlock it first.

Android

On Android: try a SIM from another carrier. "SIM not supported" or a request for an unlock code means it is locked. You can also search Settings for "SIM lock".

How to unlock, by carrier

Find your carrier below. Most unlock requests are free and fast once you are eligible. The general rule is that your device must be paid off and your account in good standing.

AT&T+

Postpaid phones can be unlocked after about 60 days, prepaid after about 6 months, once paid off and in good standing. Request through AT&T's device unlock page.

Verizon+

Update for 2026: Verizon no longer automatically unlocks every phone after 60 days. Phones bought before late January 2026 may still auto unlock after 60 days, but newer phones generally unlock only after the financing is paid off, and by request. Do not assume your Verizon phone is unlocked. Check Carrier Lock in your settings, and if locked, contact Verizon.

T-Mobile+

Postpaid phones can typically be unlocked after about 40 days, prepaid after about 365 days, once paid off and in good standing. Use the Device Unlock feature in the T-Mobile app or contact support.

Policies change and each carrier has its own fine print. If your carrier is not listed, or you are unsure, call your carrier and ask "Is my phone unlocked?" and if not "Am I eligible to unlock it now?"

Still not sure?

When in doubt, check before you buy. Most US carriers can confirm your phone's lock status in a few minutes. We would rather you check first than refund later, which we cannot do once the eSIM is activated.
